About ARI

The role of Aussie Rules International (ARI) is to promote and develop the sport of Australian Football internationally.

ARI is committed to working with all stakeholders to assist the international growth of the sport, which celebrates its 150th year in 2008. Our focus is on:

  • Establishing national junior development programs;
  • Providing footballs and other resources to international leagues and clubs;
  • Coordinating coaching, umpiring and administration clinics;
  • Running international tournaments and events, and
  • Raising awareness of Australian football and the AFL competition.

ARI acknowledges the AFL's role as both the keeper of the code and the world governing body of Australian football.

As a development body, ARI looks forward to assisting the AFL and international bodies to identify and tap into the many opportunities and revenue streams that exist outside Australia.

Background

The International Australian Football Council (IAFC) was formed in 1995. It was rebranded as Aussie Rules International (ARI) in 2005.

Aussie Rules International is committed to working with all stakeholders to assist the international growth of the sport.

ARI looks forward to cooperating with all stakeholders in the development and promotion of our great game worldwide - particularly in the areas of junior footy and regions where footy is in its infancy.

Our aim is to see Aussie Rules played in every corner of the globe. It is important, however, not to bite off more than we can chew.

To this end we have decided to initially concentrate on one region in particular - Europe. Within Europe we are currently conducting our first pilot project - Aussie Rules UK.

The lessons learned from Aussie Rules UK will be crucial in the creation of an Aussie Rules program that will be eventually rolled out across Europe and the rest of the globe.
