Atlantic Alliance Cup

The Atlantic Alliance is an informal body comprised of the five Australian football leagues (USA, Canada, Ireland, Great Britain and Denmark) which flank the Atlantic Ocean. The inaugural Atlantic Alliance Cup was held in London in October 2001. The tournament was won convincingly by the "babes" of northern hemisphere footy, Ireland. Aside from umpires and various other officials, there were no Australians involved, every player having learned the game outside Australia.

The tournament was the first opportunity for the administrators of the respective leagues to meet and exchange ideas and experiences. During the week, several meetings were held, and the informal Atlantic Alliance football body was established.
