This section has been prepared by ARI to outline some of the key issues and strategies that need to be addressed if Australian football is to become a fully fledged international sport.
It is hoped that the AFL and ARI will use their best endeavours to meet regularly and work together to develop strategic planning in order to promote Australian Football internationally, for the benefit of all stakeholders.

Wales, a strong rugby football nation is a very new country to Aussie Rules. Aussie Rules Wales formed in September 2005 and has expanded to several senior teams. The national team, Red Dragons, debuted in November 2007 to play against England.
Young Englishman Will Thursfield entered the AFL as a rookie following an outstanding junior career since arriving in Australia and is now held by many to be one of the best young defenders in Aussie Rules.
