Development Officers

ARI has established a good relationship with the Australian Youth Ambassadors for Development Program (AYAD). AYAD is funded by AusAID and is managed by Austraining International. More information about the program can be found at www.ausaid.gov.au/youtham

AYAD places skilled young Australians, aged 18-30, on short-term assignments (3-12 months) in developing countries throughout Asia and the Pacific.

In conjunction with AYAD and the Tonga Australian Football Association (TAFA), ARI placed the first ever full-time Australian Football Development Officer in the Pacific (in Tonga in March 2004). A second Development Officer commenced in April 2005 and the fourth full-time Development Officer is currently in Tonga.

This initiative was followed by the AFL, who placed a Development Officer in Samoa.

ARI will seek to place additional Development Officers in the Asia-Pacific region.

ARI invites the AFL to adopt a joint coordinated approach for the benefit of both organisations.
