Introduction

During the 2008 EU Cup in Prague, Simon MacGregor from Finland AFL proposed to play an Anzac Cup match in Villers-Bretonneux, to align with the Anzac Day ceremonies in the north of France.

Simon's great Grandfather served in the Somme from 1915-1918 attached to the 2nd Battalion as a Captain in the AIF Royal Veterinary Corps.

The Thailand Tigers run a similar event combined with the Anzac ceremonies at Kanchanaburi Allied War Cemetery near Hellfire pass on the Burma-Thai Railway. Each year they invite a different expat team from other parts of Asia.

On 26 April, 2009 the inaugural ANZAC Cup was held in Villers-Bretonneux and was a great success. ARI is pleased to announce that the event will be back in 2010.
