10 teams participated - Canada, Ireland, USA, Great Britain, New Zealand, PNG, Samoa, South Africa, Japan and Spain.
New Zealand defeated Papua New Guinea in the final and, unlike their rugby cousins, are the current World Champions.
Wales, a strong rugby football nation is a very new country to Aussie Rules. Aussie Rules Wales formed in September 2005 and has expanded to several senior teams. The national team, Red Dragons, debuted in November 2007 to play against England.
Young Englishman Will Thursfield entered the AFL as a rookie following an outstanding junior career since arriving in Australia and is now held by many to be one of the best young defenders in Aussie Rules.
