Hosting the Australian Football International Cup is a great honour for the people of Warrnambool.

We welcome visitors to our city by the sea, where the wind might be chilly at this time of year, but the hospitality is very warm!

Australian Football is in our blood around here. Every weekend, more than 2000 men, boys and girls take the field throughout our region, with many more spectators gathering on the sidelines.

Volunteers give thousands of hours to ensure grassroots football is thriving, and this dedication has earned Warrnambool and district a reputation as an AFL breeding ground. Our region has nurtured many fine players, including Jonathan Brown (Brisbane Lions), Scott Lucas (Essendon), Jordan Lewis (Hawthorn), and Brent Moloney (Melbourne).

The International Cup will give our football community the highest level of exposure to the best players outside Australia, and our district teams and schools are excited to have been paired up with international teams for the tournament.

On behalf of the district, I congratulate the AFL on bringing the International Cup to Warrnambool. While the tournament will have enormous benefits for our city, visitors will have the privilege of staying in one of the most beautiful tourist destinations in the world.
