Introduction

The Australian Football Harmony Cup (previously known as the Multicultural Cup) features teams drawn from Melbourne's migrant communities. The aim of the event is twofold:

1. to celebrate Melbourne's ethnic diversity and harmony, and
2. use the sport of Australian football, as Australia's only indigenous sport, to break down cultural and ethnic barriers. We may come from many different backgrounds but we are all Australians.

The Harmony Cup is an official Harmony Day event. Teams from Melbourne’s multicultural communities compete and the emphasis is on participation and fun.

Each team plays 3 matches under the banner of their country of origin and in their national colours.

The two teams that are ranked first and second at the conclusion of the preliminary round of matches play each other in the Grand Final. The winner is awarded the Harmony Cup by AFL Legend Ron Barassi. Each team and/or the community they represent also provides a cultural performance during the day.

The event is run by Aussie Rules International(ARI), which was formed in 1995 to promote and develop Australian football internationally.
