Australian football in Africa is currently only played at an organised level in South Africa, although there have been attempts to introduce the sport into other African nations.
Aussie Rules International actively sought the inclusion of Australian Football in the 2007 Africa Games in Algeria. Read the Discussion Paper. Ultimately we were unsuccessful but will try again for 2011, when the Games will be held in Zambia.
Wales, a strong rugby football nation is a very new country to Aussie Rules. Aussie Rules Wales formed in September 2005 and has expanded to several senior teams. The national team, Red Dragons, debuted in November 2007 to play against England.
Young Englishman Will Thursfield entered the AFL as a rookie following an outstanding junior career since arriving in Australia and is now held by many to be one of the best young defenders in Aussie Rules.
