Beijing Bombers

The Bombers were formed in 2003 when 12 or so guys traveled to Shanghai for the first encounter against the Shanghai Tigers. The club then went on a hiatus for a short period to consolidate numbers.

In 2006 the Bombers formed once again for a further trip to Shanghai against the Tigers. In 2007 the Bombers were able to finally notch up win number one in the historic first ever game of Aussie Rules to be played in Beijing when the Tigers traveled to the capital to be defeated by a determined Bombers unit 105-66. They followed this up with a memorable 13 point win in the return clash in Shanghai after being down by 6 goals at half time to retain the China Cup.

The two teams have built up quite a rivalry over these contests, but also a close partnership and friendship through uniting under the China Reds banner at several Asian Championships held across the region. The two teams also unite for the annual Manila Cup 12-a-side tournament, which was played for the first time in July 2008.

The Bombers are committed to developing the game locally, forming the Beijing SiShen Bombers in 2007. The SiShen Bombers are made up of 100% local Chinese players mainly from Beijing Sport University. In October they played the first domestic fixture in China to be played between two 100% Chinese sides when they defeated the Tianjin Demons.

This development, supported by the AFL, Melbourne City Council and Mitchells, culminated in the formation of the China Red Demons at the 2008 International Cup in Melbourne.

In 2008 the Beijing Bombshells were formed providing an opportunity for Beijing's female population to indulge in a bit of footy with an emphasis on fun and fitness rather than competition. They have played several International Rules fixtures against the Beijing Gaelic girls.

The Bombers also have occasional intraclub, games against the Red Demons and an annual international rules series against the Beijing Gaelic Athletic Association.

2009 saw further development of the game in Beijing with the creation of the Beijing Australian Football League (BAFL), a 9-a-side competition played between the Dongcheng Demons, Chaoyang Cats and Sanlitun Immunity.
