Aussie Rules in France is currently played by seven clubs in Paris, Strasbourg, Bordeaux, Perpignan, Toulouse, Aix-en-Provence and Montpellier. The Union Française de Football Australien is the current ad-hoc governing body. There have been a number of other short-lived clubs in the country in the past, although the long distances between them have prevented the creation of a national league.
Aussie Rules has been played in the USA for over a decade. Since the first game between Cincinnatti and Louisville in 1996, the game has expanded to over 30 clubs and 2,000 players across the states with less than one in four Australians and "metro" style leagues in many cities. The two original teams still compete in the fiercely competitive Mid American Australian Football League. The national team, the Revolution has a strong rivalry with Canada and finished 3rd in 2005 and are looking to improve at this year's International Cup.
Alipate Carlile was born in Fiji. A big and strong young defender, he plays with the Port Adelaide Power. His cousin, David Rodan also Fijian, plays for the Power.
