Edinburgh Bloods

The Edinburgh Bloods date back to the earliest days of the Scottish Aussie Rules Football League.  Originally the Edinburgh Puffins, the team was set up by Richard Prentice at the same time as Andy Butler was setting up the Glasgow team.  When one of the team, Damien Schneider, was able to arrange through his brother, Adam, for the Sydney Swans to donate thirty of their jumpers from 2003, the Edinburgh team switched its name to the Bloods, in tribute of the Swans, who were known as the South Melbourne Bloods until the 1930s.  The name "Puffins" was given over to the national team of Scotland, recognising the Puffin as a majestic bird native to the country.
