Manly Warringah Wolves

The Wolves won the 2007 Sydney AFL 1st Division flag with a nail-biting extra time grand final defeat of Southern Sharks. For much of the match, the Sharks had appeared the more probable victors as they led for all but thirty seconds of normal time, but during the two additional five minute periods it was the Wolves were faster, fitter and more focused. Final scores were Manly-Warringah 10.14 (74) defeated Southern Sharks 9.9 (63). The day might have been even more memorable for the Wolves but both their reserves and under 18 sides went under in their respective grand finals.

Manly-Warringah's senior team had come close to success in both 2005 and 2006 when it bowed out of premiership contention at the preliminary final stage. Overall, the seniors can boast an impressive record, with a total of five senior premierships to date. The side's first flag was achieved in 1985 on the strength of a 16.17 (113) to 5.11 (41) grand final trouncing of St Ives. The side then went on to qualify for every grand final until 1990, but only the last of these was won.

The Wolves were perennial contenders during the 1990s, and claimed further premiership success in both 1995 and 1996 at the expense of University of New South Wales. Their supremacy in both of these years was clearly evidenced by their margins of victory in the grand finals: 98 points in 1995, and 80 points a season later.
