The Goulburn Valley Football League origins date back to 1893. Clubs from townships of Kyabram, Mooroopna, Shepparton and Tatura would organize to meet and play games. Later clubs from Undera, Rushworth, Murchison, Tongala and Echuca would spend time in the league. Prior to WWII the league used to play on Wednesday afternoon, but in 1939 the league decided to change to Saturday afternoon.
